Centre for Family Studies
The Centre for Family Studies (CFS) was established in 2019 as a natural progression of the Family Cohesion Project (FCP) and is engaged in policy formulation that improves developmental services to families. The CFS seeks to increase understanding of South African families and the issues that affect them. Ms Imelda Diouf, a current member of the Board of Trustees, has been tasked with extending the reach of the Family Strengthening Programme.
To achieve this objective, the CFS links civil society organisations, government departments, the corporate sector, as well as national and international research institutes; supporting quality research relevant to policy and practice related to family resilience and well-being. The CFS has formed a strategic alliance with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Children, Families and Society of the University of the Western Cape (UWC). This alliance will extend our capacity to provide empirical research, as well as a platform to facilitate information exchange for professional associates working with families and communities.
